Mahishasura Mardini Stotra | Durga Puja | Durga Mantra
Mahishasura Mardini Stotram is a highly revered stotra in the glory of Goddess Durga written by Sri Adi Shankaracharya. It is said that the mighty demon king Mahishasura had undertaken intense austerities to please Shiva following which he was granted the boon of immortality by the Lord. Endowed with this boon Mahishasura began his endless tyranny over devatas so as to conquer their divine abode. Eventually he was slayed by the personification of divine energy Devi Durga, the epitome of ultimate source. Legend says that Mahishasura takes on forms of many powerful beasts during the battle and in his transition from the form of Buffalo, the Goddess pinned him to the ground, pierced his chest, and beheaded him with her sword to reclaim the victory of virtuous devas over vice demons. Mahisasura Mardini is the fierce form of Goddess Durga wherein she is depicted with ten arms, who rides a lion, carries weapons and assumes hand mudras. This video features the much celebrated stotra in the soul-stirring voice of Anandmurti Gurumaa, drawn from the album titled 'Ananda Stotras' that also presents more sacred chants of Devi Durga along with Nirvanashatkam.
