Master Speaks on Life, Teachings & Works of Mystic Masters: Meera Bai, Sahajo Bai, Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi, Baba Bulleh Shah

It is by no means easy to decipher, to grasp the essence held in the works of mystics and that is why they need to be understood from an awakened being. As at the plane of their highly evolved consciousness, self-realized beings speak the same truth albeit in a different manner, in different styles. Anandmurti Gurumaa has thoroughly expounded upon the essence present in the messages given by several renowned mystics who have graced earth at different times. She has explicated the teachings of a myriad of sages from diverse backgrounds, from different parts of India and oversees – then whether it is the Sikh Gurus or Buddha, Kabir or Rumi, Meerabai or Sahajobai, Charandas or Bulleh Shah, Namdev or Dnyāneshwar, Sufi mystics or the Zen masters. Most of her expositions on the teachings of these mystics are available as recorded CD's or DVD's and some are also compiled into books.

It takes one to know one. And that makes Anandmurti Gurumaa best placed to talk about the most remarkable Avadhoo of all times, the renowned Bohemian, Kabir. It will be hard to come across someone who has never heard of the iconic mystic Kabir before. And this is despite him hailing from the fifteenth or sixteenth century. His penetrating bhajans (hymns), his pithy dohās (couplets) have more than stood the test of time, remaining as popular, as inspiring as ever. And as cryptic as ever! Thus the media abounds with scores of purported interpretations which are far, far away from the intended meaning.
It is by no means easy to decipher, to grasp the essence held in the subtext of his words. Indeed, such is the impenetrable gist of his teachings that it is simply inscrutable for ordinary beings. That is why his work needs to be understood from an awakened being, from an enlightened master who has tasted the same truth that Kabir had.
And Anandmurti Gurumaa is one such awakened being who has graciously simplified his teachings for the masses at large. Just as all ignorant beings are, at one level, connected to each other, so are the enlightened masters. At the plane of their highly evolved consciousness, they speak the same truth albeit in a different manner, in different styles. Thus all self-realized beings are endeared to Anandmurti Gurumaa but Kabir does hold a special place in her heart. And it is with this fondness that she talks so animatedly and yet so lucidly about the maverick and his mystical teachings.
Any avid Kabir-admirer, any earnest seeker wanting to explore who or what Kabir really was - need look no further. Jashn-e-Kabir is a celebration of the life and work of this wonderful master, a compilation of a riveting three day discourse wherein Sadgurudev has revealed the real Kabir to us. She talks about his life, his teachings and dispels all the myths associated with him. And all of this is beautifully strung together with an assortment of melodious songs and presented as a pristine garland as an homage to the revered master.
Anandmurti Gurumaa illustrates how his entire life was a paradigm of non-conformism. Even stories relating to his birth are controversial and intriguing. Thus some believe he descended directly from the heavens, whilst others claim he was found as a neonate lying on a lotus petal; whilst still others affirm that he was born to an unwed Brahmin woman who left him by the side of a lake where he was then picked up and reared by a Muslim couple, Neeru and Neema.
The poor weavers named the child Kabir. He grew up in impoverished surroundings in the temple rich city of Benāras, watching the hypocrisy of self-righteous and self-proclaimed keepers of religion, then be it Hindu Brahmins or Muslim Maulawis. All Kabir wanted was to know the truth, the absolute truth. And thus he wandered from hither to

thither, sometimes frequenting groups of Vaishnavites, at other times tagging along with sādhus from different sects, seeking answers to his questions from Hindus and Muslims alike. But to no avail!
His heart burning in the fire of quest for the truth he spent innumerable sleepless nights tossing and turning in his bed. He kept wandering and did everything that everyone advocated. And then finally, at long last, his anguished seeking came to an end when he came across the ultimate truth that conclusively quenched his long drawn out thirst.
And for the remainder of his life, he sought to alleviate the suffering masses by guiding them to the ocean of truth. But his style was unique. He did not mince his words and never shied away from calling a spade a spade. The iconoclastic master would openly criticize blind ritualistic practices which did nothing to lift the veil of ignorance. When religion becomes a mere ceremonial dead end, it remains no more than a corpse. Kabir would say that everyone was carrying a dead body on their shoulder, carrying the corpse of their religion then be it a Hindu or a Muslim.
Kabir's intuitive ingenuity can be seen in the words and phrases he used to impart his teachings. He communicated his opinions through liberal usage of metaphors based upon incidents from day-to-day life. For example: A seeker's longing for the divine is expressed as the yearning of a newly-wed bride for her beloved groom. The allegorical style with usage of cryptic symbolism is indeed peerless and uniquely characteristic of his teachings.
But perhaps the word that is instantly associated with Kabir is, Avadhoo. Avadhoo refers to the vast expanse of the naked boundless, limitless space. The one who has connected to that which is infinite, which has no boundaries; who has transcended all darkness of the mind, who has gone beyond all dualities is an Avadhoo.
Anandmurti Gurumaa has lent her melodious voice in the symphonious album called Avadhoo which is a rare collection of Kabir gems. Only a mystic can truly understand and decipher another mystic. This is what makes this album all the more special and unique.
