Law of attraction as given in ‘The Secret’
Q: What is your view on the law of attraction and being the creator of your own reality? The movie, ‘The Secret’ was a big hit and it taught millions that by thinking positive, you attract positive experiences into your life. Does like attract like? If we think positive, do we attract positivity? Please explain.
A: Well, you have already written that it is a movie and a movie is most of the time a fiction. Just that this fiction has been laced with lot of words of autosuggestions and hypnotherapy, where the claimants are saying that what you think would actually happen. Even our sages & rishis too say a similar thing, but it’s funny. In America, a lady who had cancer stopped all her medicines after watching this movie. This subject came on the Oprah show. I think if you log on to the Oprah website, you would come to know about all these details. It was mentioned that I am not promoting that you should stop taking your medication but just think that my cancer is going…going…gone…gone! Then the lady says that “Now I am totally healthy.”
Positive thinking is one thing but these claims have some flaws in them. However, it was something very interesting that the whole of the US, UK & Europe went crazy for this book, ‘The Secret’ and the movie based on it. It did help many people though, but it harmed many people too.
So the point is how you apply a thing, but you cannot generalize it. We are different from one another. Each one of us has a different set of mind and a different set of consciousness, a different set as to how to make a resolve & stick to that. So all these things need to be considered.
