Bullehshah’s love for his Guru
It is only the Guru who can lead us out of the mind’s darkness by illuminating the lamp of wisdom within.
Bullehshah lovingly calls his Guru Ranjha and himself Heer after the legendary lovers of Punjab, Heer and Ranjha. Just as Muslims undertake Haj, the pilgrimage to the holy shrine of Mecca, Bullehshah says that his pilgrimage is to the place his Guru resides; for him, that has become a holy shrine. His face is always turned in the direction of his Guru; that is where he offers his prayers. His heart is always bowing down before his Guru, the one who has removed ignorance from his mind and made him realise the truth within himself.
