Social Image seems to be contradictory on spiritual path…
Q: Why does one make effort at all? Is it not to strengthen the image one has about oneself? This image building plays a contradictory role in spirituality and yet if one does not make any effort, there is a danger of going astray. Seeing this one wants to find some sort of balance. In this pursuit one intuitively feels a necessity of Guru. Is this right?
A: Shilpa, indeed it is right, to have a Guru and this Guru who so ever this person would be, would definitely guide you in your life. The most important thing is that this self image and these efforts to clear this self image. All these things are more to do with your social interaction and definitely you have to have an image when you are in social circle but that is the face which you won’t like to carry back home; and you still don’t have those guts to show your real face to the people. Thus, there is a great mockery which is happening; there is a great drama in your life. You do something which you don’t want to do, you talk about those things in which you don’t even believe, but yet to be in a social circle, sometimes you are pottering those things, which are not very close to your heart and mind. If you talk about those things in which you believe, you will come definitely with some repercussion that people would accept it or reject it and anything which is rejected will induce pain. So, one fears pain of rejection, thus one is ready for the game as it is convenient for us.
