Learn to deal with mental anguish due to physical disability
Q: I would like to ask you how I can help, support or encourage a cousin who lost her eye sight in a car accident. It has been two and a half years and several surgeries later; she still cannot see. Sometimes I am at a loss of words. It is hard to see her miss out when we are watching tv or looking at photos, due to her disability. I know that we are to accept HIS will. Yet, I hear that prayer can change any situation.
A: I don’t know whether prayer alone can change the anatomy of a human person. I can understand & empathize with the pain which you & that girl who has lost her sight must be going through. But the thing is that the real solace has to come from within & it will only come when she will accept the situation & until & unless she doesn’t accept the present situation in her mind, she will keep on fighting with that.
And people around her would be perhaps fighting with their own minds & asking God or fighting with him as to why this poor girl has lost her sight & how much we can pray to bring that eye sight back. So it is just waging a battle which you will lose. If surgeries & medical help have not helped the girl, then finally the only thing which is left is to accept this disability & not fight with it.
If this acceptance comes from the heart, mark my word, there is so much of immense energy, strength & shakti present in every human heart & mind that the person would be able to come out of her anguish & pain.
