Non-sattvic time schedule & spirituality
Q: Pranam Gurumaa, I am an air hostess by profession due to which I can not follow a particular schedule as due to night flights I sleep during the day which is a ‘Nishedh’ on spiritual path as it is not ‘sattvic’ and so I want to know that how do I get on and progress on my spiritual journey? I would be really grateful to you if would guide me on the same and it will be a lot of help for all those pertaining to my profession who would want to get on the spiritual path being in the profession.
A: Bharti, I think so that it is no harm in being a little flexible. Well your job demands to have a these night flights and there is topsy-turvy schedules which you are supposedly to follow. That’s fine, you are a working lady, so you need to earn your money & it is good that you are earning money. So what you can do is, what I would suggest is that whatever time you can give to yourself at any time, all times are good times. So which ever time is suitable & comfortable to you, use that time to do chanting or pranayama or practicing asanas or listening to discourses and meditating upon & contemplating upon the words which you hear.
True, it is said that sleeping in the day is ‘Nishedh’ but then it is for those who have become an ascetic & you are a working person & you have a challenges in your life which you have to face. So I believe don’t feel guilty about it, when you will work whole night then definitely your body requires sleep. So you will sleep in the day time. It is not a sin; it is definitely not a sin.
