Key to to achieve perfection in Padmasana

Q: Please guide me to get rid of guilt of my inability to do Maha Mrityunjaya mantra japa in padmasana because after half an hour, I have to change the asana for the next half hour.

A: Please don’t feel guilty. At least don’t bring guilt with the chanting. Be guilty of everything & anything, because that is what your priests are teaching you. But atleast for one thing, don’t bring guilt. It is just a matter of practice. For now, if you can sit for half an hour in padmasana, you are already in a very good situation.
Just do lots of yoga asanas everyday, and if possible, even in the evening. Then the knee joints would become very supple,the muscles will become supple. When your gluteus maximus & gluteus minimus are tense, the key muscles in your hip area, you cannot sit in padmasana for long. Similarly, we have another long muscle; if that is stiff you can’t sit for long. How can we make it supple & flexible? With regular asana practice, your body will become very soft & flexible and then it won’t hurt. So please don’t be guilty, Punita. Keep on doing your good work.
