Have you ever noticed that not only you speak, your mind also speaks, in fact much louder. And the day you will listen to it, you will awaken to the mad house dwelling in you. Awareness is the key, silence is the catalyst and solitude is the ambiance to get freedom from this mad-house. No shortcuts! You have to encounter it to enlighten yourself from the illusionary world created by your this very mind. But it's not so easy as it sounds. It's akin to killing your own mind which is the basis of your identity as of now, and watching death happening within oneself needs tremendous courage. So be ready to die and be born anew. GUIDELINES REGARDING 21 DAYS SILENT SOLITUDE RETREAT
1. You may come out of your room in the morning at 4 a.m. before the other residents wake up or late at night after they go to sleep. Be careful; when you come out, as there should be nobody around because another person’s gestures definitely make an impact on a sadhak’s mind. During these 21 days, do not meet or talk to anybody. If you do not wish to go for a walk, do asanas in your room because movement is necessary for the body.
2. The morning meditation is Sakriya Dhyan. You have to do it for all the 21 days. A tape-recorder may be used only at the time of meditation. The rest of the time using tape-recorder is prohibited.
3. The afternoon meditation is Omkar Dhyan. In it firstly the OM mantra is sung, then humming (Gunjan) of Om is done and at the end you will chant the mantra mentally.
4. The evening meditation is Nishkriya Dhyan.
5. At night before you go to sleep, again do the humming of OM mantra, and after that go to sleep chanting OM mentally.
6. Your meals will be delivered to your room itself. Pay special attention to the quantity of your lunch and dinner. Neither eat more than you need nor less. Eat only when you are hungry and have a little less than your appetite.
7. If you wish, you may do asanas again in your room in the evening so that the body keeps fit.
8. At night if you go for a walk beware of the dogs, as at 10 p.m. ashram dogs (Jai and Vijay) are let loose to guard the ashram.
9. Be witness (sakshi) to the thoughts of your mind all the time and see what kind of thoughts are coming up. It is possible that you may face very unpleasant thoughts, and there may be very noble thoughts also. Your mind will just look for hundreds of reasons to get out from here, so be a witness (sakshi) to your mind and body all the time.
10. When you are not meditating or having your meal, at that time try to be aware of your breath or keep your attention at the naval. It would be better if you can maintain awareness of both.
