Did I have out of the body experience? Please guide.

Q : I had weird experiences when I was 7 - 10 years old. Whenever I went to bed and slept; in the next two minutes, I notice that I am stuck in my body. I am fully awake, even though, my eyes are completely closed, I cannot move any part of my body. Can you tell me what was going on at that time? I almost had this experience again when I was 17-18 years old. Now I am 21, ever since that, I have had no experience. I felt myself going towards that "childhood incident" and I stopped it. Was it an Out Of Body Experience? If not, what was it?

Monika

Answer It is a little difficult to say as per what you have written in your question. It was definitely not an out of the body experience, because your experience was that you were stopped in your own body and you were unable to move the body parts. See Monika, some times there is a point when the mind has gone into deep sleep, but yet a wave of the mind come towards the waking state & this one wave of consciousness is attaching you to the body. But most of the mind is in deep sleep, in this one infringement, there is a possibility that you find that your body is kind of…. beyond your control. Why? Because in deep sleep what happens is that the body goes kind of numb. It is so relaxed that it seems to be heavier and when we are in the waking state, the body is, in comparison to deep sleep, pretty much lighter and we are able to move our limbs & eyes as we wish to. But in deep sleep, I think it was just that only. A 0.5 percent, if I have to say in percentage - 0.5 percent of the mind sneaks into the waking state though the body was lying still on the bed. But the body could not move. Why - because most of the mind was engrossed in deep sleep. So I do not think there is anything to worry or to be scared for. To have a better preview of what you had experienced at that time, I would suggest you to do Yoga nidra. Yoga nidra would give you ample clarity in time to understand how sleep comes & even in the yoga nidra state where the body is totally relaxed, fully relaxed; it seems to be the experience of many-many practitioners that the body seems to grow very heavy and it becomes difficult to even lift the hand or open the eyes. It has been the experience of many meditators too when they are in deep meditation and say someone calls them or summons them, they find it difficult to open their eyes, to change their posture and get up and walk. The body is as if in negation and it is not ready to take the order. As such we are not the body, we live in this body. We are not the body, so it is very much possible that you had a small experience due to deep sleep, due to that unconscious state where you found that the body is not taking the command or you are not able to move your body as you would like it to. Get the yoga nidra cd and do it; it would help you to understand more. Gurumaa
