At times while chanting, why does the voice sound different?

Q : Dear Maa, Pranam. When I chant mantra chant , "OM", sometimes I feel that, I have not chanted Omkar. I feel that someone sitting inside my body chanted Omkar, my own sound is very different to hear. I have observed this many a times. It is very nice to hear myself and become free from worry and fresh. After sometime, the mind becomes very thoughtless, quiet and silent. I do it when I drive my bike, while doing some work and also at my place of sadhana at home. Please guide me more about such a situation.

Answer

Well Mander, this is one of the experiences which may be experienced by some of the aspirants and that is, when you are doing the chant of the “Om” continuously, a certain time comes when it seems that the quality and the tone of the sound has changed - which may come as a surprise that how come this is not my tone, this is not my way - this is not my voice.

Actually it is your voice, but the ability of the brain to hear a sound & analyse it in a certain way becomes slow. The reason is that when the brain is restful, it gives rise to certain hormones being surcharged, especially melatonin. Melatonin soothes the body, soothes your muscles, it relaxes you as if you are in a deep sleep.

So when there is slumber, the ability of the mind or the brain to analyse the sound gets a little weaker. It is nothing to be alarmed of, it is fine and I can assure you nothing wrong is happening to you. It is something which may have intrigued you for sometime, but enjoy it. This is a good experience.
