What is the cure for irritable bowel syndrome?

Q : Dear Gurumaa: I have been suffering from irritable bowel syndrome for the past year. I was wondering if you may please suggest any asanas or pranayama which could be helpful. Thank you for never ending blessings.

Shrikrishna Radkar

Answer Shrikrishna, this irritable bowel syndrome is just a sign, it’s a tip of the iceberg that your mind is really disturbed & also your life style has gone to docks. You really need to straighten up your mind & you need to practice Yoga Nidra everyday. Also, you should do some kind of a mantra chanting; be it mantra of your choice - but you need to inculcate the mantra chanting. And you really have to watch what you eat; very healthy and nutritious food is definitely required. I am not an Ayurved Acharya but just a suggestion - if you use amla everyday, its amla churan, better make the powder at home. Don’t use the marketed stuff - you never know what kind of the product it is? Take amla, a tablespoon every morning, with warm water & also use lot of spinach in your diet. And regarding the pranayama, you should be doing nadi shodhana & kapalbhati more. And about asanas - there is a long list of asanas; but all asanas which are going to effect directly or indirectly to your digestive system - the series of the pawanmuktasana, surya namaskara, halasana, sarvangasana, shirshasana, ardha matsyendrasana asana. So, there are many asanas which you should learn from a very competent teacher. These days, there is a mushroom growth of pseudo yoga teachers and they carry a very big name brand behind them. But, it is not the brand which sells; it is the quality of the product which should be of some use to you. So please make a right selection of a right yoga teacher. Gurumaa
