What asanas can one do after surgery of inguinal hernia?

Q : My surgery of inguinal hernia happened 5 months & 20 days ago. Now I want to ask if I can do flexible asanas like padapaschimottanasana & parvatasana or in short I want to ask if I can do asanas of hatha yoga. One more thing I want to say is that before surgery, I was very flexible. Please give me the answer of this question. This is really important for my life.

Answer

Well Himanshu, just wait for may be two more months because it is hernia we are talking about, so the body needs rest. I am really surprised that if you were flexible and you were doing asanas, how come you developed hernia. That is something I am really concerned about you. This means you are not doing things correctly; and may be you are not doing pranayama correctly. Something is definitely wrong because a person who practices yoga properly can never have hernia. In any case, just wait for two more months. Maybe come to the ashram and let some of my students see you doing your asanas so that I can comment upon what kind of practice you are doing, right or wrong.
