Meditation technique to get rid of anxiety…
Q : Gurumaa, I am 33 years old. Year back my father passed away. He was a devoted man and loved to watch your discourse on Sony. He was not well and I tried to give him the best treatment but I failed. My Mom too remains sick most of the time. I am the only son and a bachelor.
I take care of her too but I am much stressed and these past years had been very traumatizing for me. I become very anxious and panic stricken. I was considering medications but I am afraid of the addiction factor. Somehow I was recently able to quit my smoking. My question is what meditation technique shall be suitable for me to calm my mind and get rid of the anxiety.
Raj Babu Chakorvarty
Answer Raj Babu, as you stated in the question, you had been a nice son to your father and you are a nice son again now for your mother. But you had not been nice to yourself. See if you are panic stricken, stressed and unhappy then this must be reflected in your actions, in your language, on your face which must be disturbing a lot to your mother, to your friends and even to yourself.
Raj, you need to understand that life is full of challenges and everyone is living according to their destiny. Seeds we have sown in our past lives germinate and give us misery, pain, disease and sickness. But that doesn't mean that we cannot come out of this unhappy situation of Karma.
You can fill your present situation with Satsang. You said that your father loved watching my discourse; I would suggest you to try to listen to me as this listening will grow in you, your understanding will grow too and you will attain wisdom which will lead you to live more peaceful, happier, more un-stressful life without any anxieties.
Life can be very hard and you have experienced it. I believe that you did a very good thing by not using any medicines & saved yourself from further addictions. Now, let’s come to the technique that would be suitable to calm your mind, I would say that may be I will give you a very simple technique now.
You breathe in while sitting straight. Breathe in gently & slowly and then you hold it for one, two, three or five seconds as per your capacity, and then slowly exhale. Continue with this particular style of breathing, inhale slowly and gently through nose hold it as per your capacity and then slowly exhale through your mouth. Know that this is inhale through nose & exhale through mouth.
Keep on doing it for ten minutes and then start doing the chant of Mantra 'OM' along with the deep inhalation. So inhale deeply and then gently chant 'OM……..' When you will speak 'OM', concentrate in your forehead region. Thrust little above the midpoint of two eyebrows. This point is called as 'Bhrumadhya'. Keep all your concentration there and try to experience the vibration of 'OM' at this particular point.
Do this as early as possible in the morning with the sun rise. Also if possible try to do some charity with love, feed some people, throw a feast for the people who are hungry. They might not be as holy and thou attitude but be happy that they accept your food.
There is one meditation technique which I would definitely like to suggest. It is Sakriya Dhayan. It is very forceful & very powerful meditation technique. You kindly have it through the web site www.gurumaa.com or from nearby center which ever is available or you can just call up my office they will courier it to you.
Practice Sakriya Dhayan every day along with the technique which I have talked about now.
