The Need of Shakti
The project Shakti is an initiative by Anandmurti Gurumaa, against female infanticide and the brutalities afflicted on the girl child in India. In India, on one hand goddess Durga is worshipped as a form of ‘Shakti’, while on the other hand, the incarnation of Shakti - the girl child, is subjected to female infanticide. Shakti – An initiative to empower the girl child, is the voice of truth against this crude reality.
Empowering the girl child
Shakti aims at empowering the girl child, by providing financial support to the daughters of widows/handicapped parents/war martyrs to complete their education up to 12th standard. This program is absolutely non-discriminatory in nature i.e. without any distinction on the basis of caste/color/creed/religion. Today Shakti has expanded its support to include scholarships for girls pursuing other vocational caourses to help them become self dependent. read more...
Sinking Child Sex Ratio
With the stats denoting the declining number of girls, Shakti is committed to save more girls by empowering them. Take a glimpse of the stark reality which shows that girls are missing... According to the report of United Nation Population Fund, the child sex ratio stands at only 927 girls per 1000 boys with fewer than 800 girls in the states like Haryana, Punjab, Delhi and Gujarat. Empowering these girls with the key tools of zooming internet age so that they can get ahead in life and explore the vast choice of computer related jobs. Computer Education Awareness Program - CEAP
CEAP, a new dimension to Shakti has enthusiastically embarked on the journey to create awareness about the significance of computers, to the girls of Govt. Schools in Sonipat. In total, 25 schools have been identified in Sonipat region where we aim to conduct this computer education awareness sessions, and till now, 9 schools have been covered under CEAP which means around 1500 girls have got their first exposure to the utility of computer including internet and knowledge about its basic functions.
The goal of this programme is to open a well equipped computer institute whereby the short term computer courses can be provided to the girls absolutely at no charge. We further envisage liaising with various organizations in order to offer employment opportunities to these girls. read more...
