Meditation is not about doing something. Just being - Anandmurti Gurumaa

MEDITATION AND YOGA
Meditation and yoga are interlinked. If done properly yoga-asanas can lead to meditation, but if it is not understood clearly and practiced dedicatedly then it can become just another form of exercise. The eight fold path of Yoga begins from body discipline and slowly moves to the mind.
Yoga is not a philosophy, it is not a religion. It is a pure science just like mathematics, physics or chemistry. Physics is not Christian or Buddhist physics. Likewise, Yoga too is a pure science. It is an authentic scientific enquiry into the nature of the inner being. So a Mohammedan can be a yogi, as can a Christian or a Jain or a Buddhist. Yoga is concerned with your total being.
Yoga gives us the laws of transformation, the laws of how to die and how to be reborn again, the laws of a new order of being. That is why I call it a science. Yoga means being in harmony, in unison with the absolute existence. But this needs centering, equanimity. And unless you attain this, everything that you do in this external world is useless, a sheer waste of your precious lifetime.
Yoga is an eight-fold ladder. The first rung is yama, followed by

niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana and the final stage is samadhi. When practiced with awareness & tenacity, asanas enable one to move to the stage of pranayama – which means giving direction to prana, the cosmic life force. And as it gets perfected, it leads one to the next stage of pratyahara, which on ripening leads to dharana and dharana matures into dhyana, finally fructifying into samadhi, the complete absorption of mind. Thus, yama, niyama, asana, pratyahara, dharana are the base of meditation, in absence of which dhyana cannot happen.
Book titled Health & Healing Through Yoga (Yog Se Arogya in Hindi) chronicles the talks of Sadgurudev on health & wellbeing. In today's modern times, when man has lost touch with his innate wisdom, mental peace and equilibrium, this book is a gift to mankind. Apart from elucidating some of the common afflictions of modern times - stress, heart disease and hypertension, their background, prevention and remedies, this book specifically elaborates on the various yoga asanas, pranayamas, shatkarmas and the immeasurable benefits of yoga nidra. In a nutshell, this book is a boon for all those who are in search of all-encompassing health, wellbeing and conscious living.
